Who else finds summer oppressive? No offense to the season, but I need to be honest about my feels. I love the spirit of summer. The auto-chill vibes. The 15-hour sunlit days. The breezy fashion. What I don’t love: the heat.
One of the reasons soaring temperatures make anxious and stressed is because of the beauty sins that come along with them: frizzy hair, facial sweats, and melting makeup. It’s hard to be happy when you’re not feeling you.
Intense heat makes everything difficult, less enjoyable, and us humans less functional. Nothing is comfortable when you’re hot, especially things like commuting and outdoor events—concerts and weddings I’m looking at you. Factor hormonal fluctuations with summer humidex readings and you have a perfect storm of hyperthermic realities.
The unsung hero of my recent summers: a portable fan. I was on a trip to the Caribbean a few years back when a journalist friend pulled a tiny rechargeable fan out of her purse to cool us down during a balmy patio lunch. Now I don’t leave home from May through October without one. I’m stoked this year my essential summer accessory has levelled up thanks to Dyson and their latest pint-size launch.
Landing just in time for summer comes the HushJet Mini Cool Fan ($130 at dyson.ca starting in May). This is the perfect cooling-on-the-go companion weighing just 212 grams (which is about the same as your phone) and boasting up to six hours of battery life. It packs five mighty airflow speeds which can reach up to 25m/s (that’s 90km/h!), plus a boost mode for when the heat really cranks up.

The slick little HushJet is available in three chic colourways (cobalt blue, carnelian and stone), fits in the palm of your hand, and packs easily into your carryall. It also comes with a travel pouch for efficient portability and storage of all its accessories: a charging cable, stand and lanyard in case you want to wear your HushJet to provide continuous cooling.
Another thing to love about HushJet? The acoustics. If you own anything by Dyson you know low noise levels are something they are a master of. Everything from Dyson blow-dryers to vacuums run quieter. Thanks to lowered frequencies there is no high-pitched whirring or whining, just quiet and calm cooling. Impending summer heatwaves are feeling less stressful for me already.
