We recently updated our driver’s license and health cards. When they arrived in the mail and we looked at the photographs displayed on each one—taken at the ServiceOntario centre a few blocks from our home—we thought we looked pretty cute. Until we pulled the old cards out of our wallets and compared the two photos. Sigh. Why does aging always seem to look worse in the teeny tiny, black and white, unsmiling photos on our legal documents?
That’s when we started added a scoop of Genuine Health’s Marine Clean Collagen into our morning smoothie every day. Clearly, we need a youth-inducing boost.
The University of California, Los Angeles’ Health department attributes the visible signs of aging to our body’s natural levels of collagen which decrease by 1 per cent a year beginning in our twenties. Additionally, and according to the American Academy of Dermatology, women lose 30 per cent of their skin and body’s collagen in the five years following menopause, which by the way, can start in some women as early as their 30s. So, we need our collagen, stat! After all, it’s our body’s most abundant protein and helps us form connective tissue, which is super necessary for our skin, bones, muscles, tendons and cartilage to function. Plus, it makes our facial and body skin look more taunt, elastic, supple and younger, explaining why we’re ingesting the flavourless collagen powder like it’s our job.
Sustainably sourced from the North Atlantic, Genuine Health’s Marine Clean Collagen supplement is packed with wild-caught cod, pollock and haddock fish skins—all an excellent source of Type I collagen, which helps replace the collagen we’re losing courtesy of each passing year. And no, it doesn’t taste fishy. What the fish skin does do though is support and promote youthful, hydrated skin, healthy joints, nails and hair. And we’re definitely down for that.
