Residue that makeup, oil and dirt leave behind can leave the skin lackluster. Try these go-to solutions to help erase the damage and reveal the glowing skin that’s underneath.

Take Vitamin E

Vitamin E, thanks to its healing and antioxidant properties, is an essential vitamin for healthy skin, hair and nails. Taken orally, it repairs skin from the inside out. Topically, it's added to many anti-aging skin care creams and treatments and toted as an anti-aging vitamin, it’s widely used topically. Try it in capsule form, or by getting your daily dose from a handful of almonds or sunflower seeds.

Wear Sunscreen

When most people think of glowing skin, they think of a tan. They couldn’t be more wrong. While it is important to get the Vitamin D provided by the sun, sunscreen is crucial in preventing sunspots, wrinkles, and most importantly, skin cancer—all of which make skin appear worn out. Wear an SPF of at least 15 year-round to protect skin and prevent the damaging effects of the sun.

Remove Your Makeup

It’s 3am after a night on the town and you arrive home ready to roll right into your bed. Bad idea. All it takes is two minutes of your time to remove makeup, allowing your skin to breathe and to prevent the oil that is produced overnight from getting trapped under a layer of makeup (and prevent waking with a new pimple). If you’re too tired to cleanse, tone and moisturize, at least have some handy makeup-removing wipes by your bedside to remove the majority of your makeup, and do the rest in the morning. Your skin will thank you.

Eat a Healthy Diet

The same foods that nourish your body are good for your skin. A diet rich in veggies, fruit, whole grains and protein will provide the base you need to develop healthy and glowing skin over time. It’s also important to stay hydrated—drinking lots of water along with your healthy diet means skin will stay plump, pretty and hydrated.

Use Shimmer Powder

When all else fails, a shimmer powder combined with your moisturizer will give your skin an instant glow. For extra oomph, take a brush and dip it in highlighting powder, swiping on cheekbones and temples to instantly brighten
