How to Travel Solo in Paris

Travelling to Paris alone might be something you've always wanted to do. Or maybe it's your only option. Corralling your friends into a girls' vacation simply can be difficult, and your partner's work schedule is out of whack. Things like weddings, honeymoons, work life and cash and, sorry to say, a difficult pal can get in the way. TBH, walking the streets of Paris, without having a girlfriend complain about jet lag, the price of the Euro or whatever, is pretty sweet. (Although shopping the sales at Galeries Lafayette with the right friend or strolling along Parisian streets hand-in-hand with my love are pretty good, too.) Here are our top picks for enjoying Paris on your own.

Sightseeing at night

The absolute worst part about traveling on your own is not feeling safe, especially if you’re stuck in your hotel room from 9 p.m. until 9 a.m. But joining CYD on my last trip to Paris was a game changer. CYD is a social fitness group that congregates at beautiful spots in Paris, like Montmartre, Monceau and Opéra. The massive group of (mostly Parisians) heads off for a boot-camp style workout with squats, push-ups, planks and more, after a half-hour run. When you register for the group fitness class on your phone, you choose the fitness level: snail, turtle, bunny or wild cat. That will determine if you run 5K or 10 or more. Afterwards, you end the workout with a drink or two. It’s completely free. No catch, I checked. CYD is a passion project by creator and entrepreneur Romain Rainaut and his 82 volunteer ambassadors who run the sessions. CYD is a great way to meet people in Paris. I met a cool Parisian blonde named Leslie who invited me to clink wine glasses a few days later at Pressing, a chic panini and wine bar in the 10th arrondissement (also another good spot to dine on your own).

Her delish crêpes and galettes are all made from organic and local ingredients. Aside from the Instagram-worthy décor and patio, the setup is very fitting for a single diner with its high-top tables. The absolute best part? It’s on Rue St.
