Your Ultimate Guide To Looking Like A ’90s Supermodel For Halloween

When five of the original supermodels of the ’90s closed Versace’s Spring 2018 show in Milan last month, it was iconic, but nothing less than an emotional rollercoaster. Shock, excitement, awe, nostalgia ” we felt it all. Cindy, Naomi, Claudia, Helena, Carla, Christy and others ” are more than just icons from an era that gave rise to the supermodel, together they’re the ultimate group of girlfriends. Still recovering from that major wave of nostalgia, we’re throwing it back to when personalities were big and hair even bigger, and taking Halloween style inspiration from the original supers themselves.

From bold editorials shot by Peter Lindbergh to iconic Versace ad campaigns, see how you and your girlfriends can channel the clique of ˜90s supers this Halloween below.

Gangster-Chic
Get your pantsuits on; these supers mean business. Christy, Linda and Naomi channel original gangsters (think John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction) in this 1991 Vogue editorial.
To get this look, you’ll need: a white blazer (Zara Long Blazer) paired with matching white bottoms (Zara Palazzo Trousers), a fedora (Gap Wool Flat-Brim Fedora), smokey eyes, and short-slicked hair. Add a deck of cards to the mix and you and your girlfriends will be set to spend the spookiest night of the year in true gangster style.

The Rainbow
These supers ” especially Kate in that yellow ensemble ” are giving us serious rainbow inspiration. Everything is just so perfect; the pastel colours, the ˜60s hairstyles, the power poses. To transform your clique into these icons, you’ll need pastel chiffon shirts, latex midi skirts (House of CB Baby Pink Latex Pencil Skirt), pastel waist belts (ASOS 80s Patent Waist Sash Belt With Square Buckle), and the perfect shiny red lips.

Borrowed From The Boys
Here come the boys. Cindy and Linda rock bowl cuts and boyfriend blazers in this 1989 Vogue Italia editorial. Lucky for you, achieving this look is as easy as raiding your boyfriend’s closet, which hopefully has a black suit, a crisp white shirt and a black tie. Grab a mullet-y wig, and you’re good to go.

All White Everything
If Vogue tells you to twin with nine other supermodels, you twin with nine other supermodels. For this 100th anniversary Vogue cover from 1992, the gang wore matching white tie-front shirts and jeans. You probably already own these basics, but if you don’t, J.Crew Perfect Shirt in Cotton Poplin and these Urban Renewal Recycled Frayed Cropped Levi’s Jeans are all you need to recreate this effortlessly casual look.

Gianni’s Girls
Gianni’s Girls ” Mr. Versace’s exclusive group of OG supermodels ” wore the designer’s colourful creations like pros. You can be creative with this one and mix and match prints and colours to imitate the genius of Versace, or get yourself an authentic Versace Printed Silk-Twill Shirt and accessorize with a gold chain belt (For Love and Lemons Garden Chain Belt).

Rebels Without a Cause
This photograph shot by Peter Lindbergh seems like a girly-grunge twist on Marlon Brando’s motorcycle gang in The Wild One. And from the newsboy caps to the embellished leather jackets (all Gianni Versace btw), it’s surprisingly very on-trend ” meaning your recent splurges may help put this outfit together. You’ll need a leather jacket (ASOS Mango Embellished Faux Leather Jacket), a black turtleneck, a pleated miniskirt (Aritzia Babaton Denley Skirt), a newsboy hat (Eugenia Kim Marina Cashmere Hat) and some trusty combat boots.

The Girls-Next-Door
This look is so easy to recreate. It takes three pieces in total to channel this girl-next-door charm; a pastel cable-knit sweater (H&M Cable-Knit Sweater), a metallic rainbow-coloured miniskirt (For Love & Lemons Luna Metallic Skirt), and a pair of gold or silver heels. Goodbye gang of ordinary girlfriends, hello gang of Versace supers.

The Biker Trinity
This Vogue cover of Naomi, Linda and Christy takes grunge glam to a whole new level. This badass look calls for a white faux fur coat (Zadig & Voltaire Faux Fur Coat) thrown over top of a black crewneck or turtleneck, accessorized with a black headband and finished off with a bold flirty cat eye.

Glitter Babes
If you and your BFF are going solo this year, who better to channel than besties Kate and Naomi? For this KiraKira+ friendly look, think over-the-top Beyonce and Mariah Carey kind of bling. You’ll need a silver slip dress (Revolve Willa Slip Dress) and plenty of jewels to accessorize. And at last ” if you haven’t already noticed ”the ˜90s were full of single-tone smokey eyes, so forget everything you’ve learned about layering colours (yes, this includes the hours spent watching YouTube videos on how to perfect the smokey eye), and stick with one colour!
