The Winter-Ready Take on the Lace-Up Trend Every Blogger is Wearing

2016 was undoubtedly the year of the lace-up trend. From skintight bodysuits to oversized tees and thigh-high boots, lace-up garments were seen on everyone from the Kardashian/Jenner klan to our fave style bloggers.

And while some of these styles now seem a bit passé© (re: that bodysuit), there is a different version of the trend favoured by bloggers and It-girls everywhere that’s winter-appropriate and much-less risqué©: the lace-up knit sweater.

This particular style is nothing new — it was first seen on the Isabel Marant runway back in fall 2015. But now, more and more bloggers and It girls are embracing the trend, which seems almost the stark opposite of its predecessor thanks to its baggier, chunkier style.

Rather than wearing the skin-tight, lace-up bodysuits, bloggers are now going for oversized knit versions of the trend, making for a cozy, yet still sexy look. The plunging neckline isn’t quite as dramatic, and thanks to its width, the lace-up sweater can be worn off the shoulder for subtle raciness that’s still not too over-the-top.

The beauty of this trend update is, like the bodysuit version, it can be worn with virtually anything and on almost any occasion. Going for brunch with friends? Try wearing your lace-up knitwear with distressed boyfriend jeans and your fave pair of white sneakers. Date night with bae? Pair your top with a belted leather mini and some killer ankle booties. Headed to the bar? Tuck in one side of the top into your skinny jeans and throw on a pair of pointy-toed pumps for good measure.
