She may be best known as Kylie Jenner’s bestie, but Jordyn Woods (known as “Heir Jordyn” to her 3.6 million Instagram followers), is making a name for herself as a successful model and now fashion designer. This past Monday, Woods debuted her first fashion collection with Addition Elle at New York Fashion Week, and beyond the fact that the collection is for curvy girls, the line is just, well, hot. We caught up with Woods before her NYFW show to talk personal style, fashion inspirations and owning who you are.
Why did you want to collaborate with Addition Elle on a fashion line?
I wanted to collaborate with Addition Elle because I’d been working with them for two years “ they were one of my first clients. Through working with them, I realized I love the quality of clothing and their style. They just make really clothing, especially for curvy girls — everything is super supportive so I was excited to collaborate with them.
What was your overall vision for your collection?
I’ve been very inspired by the ’90s with fashion but I also wanted to make something a little bit different than what I would normally wear and also make very wearable pieces. The design team and I came up with really cool style ideas that mixed my style with things that other girls can feel confident wearing.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is pretty chill. But it’s also kind of sexy; I like to accentuate my waist. I would say it’s street style — I’m always wearing sneakers, t-shirts, cool denim. I’m very inspired by street fashion.
What are your favourite pieces from the collection?
We have this really cool denim jacket that’s oversized but it’s also cropped and has graffiti on it. I feel like you could wear it with anything “ you could wear it with a dress, you could wear it with jeans, you could wear it with leggings. Whatever you like, you could pair it with. We also have a pretty cool range of denim — wide-legged pants, another cute denim jacket with these big gold buttons, which is really cute too.
How does it feel to be a role model to millions of fans and followers on social media?
Well I do think it’s awesome that I can be a role model to people because I genuinely am just being me. I’ve never gone out of my way to try to be anything; the fact that people can look to find inspiration from my Instagram account or seeing me online, it means a lot to me. It’s awesome.
You always look amazing in your photos and so confident. What is a message you’d like to give to your fans to help them boost their own confidence?
You need to understand that your individuality is your greatest gift and no one can take that away from you. You really have to own who you are because no one is you, and that’s what makes you special and that’s what makes you beautiful. You can’t try to be like someone else — once you own who you are, people are going to look to you for inspiration. It’s simple, but it is hard in this day and age.
Looking great in photos: Find your angles. Angles are very important — that’s how I know that I’m going to like the photos that I take. If you have a cool background, and you know your angles, and have good lighting, there’s no way that you’re gonna fail.
What’s next for you? What would you like to achieve in your personal life of career?
Well, this is a very difficult question. I didn’t think three years ago I’d be in the position I am now, and look where I am. I definitely want to get more involved with my music, as in DJing, and potentially maybe acting or something. I just want to try everything. More collections for sure, and more work with Addition Elle.
