Jennie made a serious sartorial statement when she walked the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s red carpet at the 2025 Met Gala on Monday night wearing her reimagined tuxedo. The Blackpink superstar channeled the iconic Coco Chanel herself in a black tuxedo gown by Chanel to complement the night’s “Tailored for You” dress code, which accompanies the Costume Exhibit’s spring exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
Jennie’s off-the-shoulder black satin jumpsuit was adorned with pearl cabochons, two strands of pearls, and a white silk camellia with bejeweled buttons. A black satin overskirt lined with white taffeta brought dramatic flair to this elegant look on the red carpet.
Jennie finished off her custom look with a two-tone hat, matching Chanel pumps, and an 18-karat white gold and diamond ring from the brand’s high jewellery collection.
The K-pop star’s outfit was directly inspired by Coco Chanel and her designs from the 1920s-1930s. Coco Chanel was more than the creator of the Little Black Dress that would go on to become a fashion staple, she was one of the original female dandies. The tux-dress with its off-the-shoulder silhouette, cropped cigarette trousers, and a long train finished off with pearl details and a camellia flower was definitely a look that one could picture the iconic designer wearing in 2025.
The look also took over 330 hours to make, which underscores the house’s immaculate craftsmanship.
This is the third time that the Blackpink singer has walked the red carpet on the Met steps. Jennie made here Met Gala debut in 2023 wearing a vintage Chanel minidress and followed up in a dramatic Alaïa gown in 2024.
