Fall Fashion: ‘Tis the Weather for Leather

What’s not to love about fall fashion? After all, crisp mornings and beautifully coloured leaves set the perfect backdrop for luxurious fabrics and cozy outerwear. After a stylish summer of learning how to incorporate sundresses into your work wardrobe, autumn has nearly arrived. Everywhere you look during the next few months, expect to see leather appearing on city sidewalks, at formal evening events, and marching down haute couture runways.

  1. Knee-high boots in leather will be huge for fall. It’s time to move your worn flip-flops to the back of your closet and make some room for chunky heels, pointed toes, and buckles. Fall 2010’s leather boots are full of attitude and promise to make a huge fashion statement when paired with skinny denim or tights.

  2. Fitted Leather Jackets: Clearly, the influence of 1980s fashion continues well into fall. A great little jacket is versatile, adds an edge to uber-feminine outfits, and offers practicality as it will keep you warm. Zippered accents, studs, and a nipped-in waist are all great accents which leave classic leather or pleather looking modern.

  3. Liquid leather leggings: What many once thought was a daring, short-lived trend might be back in full force for yet another season. These tend to draw attention to the wearer’s body, and learning how to wear them casually is certainly a challenge. Avoid tight tops and high heels with your liquid leggings during the day- keep your look comfortable in a long tunic paired with flat or low-heeled boots. These are best when worn with different fabrics such as wool or cotton, and do not often work well with other leather garments.

  4. Leather pencil skirt: It’s definitely a trend which could be either very chic or very… cheap. Pencil skirts have been in fashion for the past couple years, so this look seemed inevitable. Although they may be for a brave few, a matte, knee-length leather skirt can be worn to the office if the rest of your ensemble is understated.

  5. The leather it bag: Every woman needs a fabulous bag, preferably a decent-sized one to hold all the essentials which get us through the week. The ever-popular tote is back, along with the cross-body style which is predicted to be popular, and the emerging bucket bag. But leather doesn’t have to mean black or brown- try hot pink, teal, tan, or cream for a different vibe this season.
