Music's glitziest evening is usually better known for dazzling performances than for genuine confessions on the world as it is. That being said, given the time we live in, it was rather heartening to see so many celebrities comment--however obliquely--on the things that matter to them. From an unexpectedly dope rap performed by host and Broadway baby James Corden to a surprisingly timely #NoDAPL shoutout from Michael Jackson's daughter Paris, here are the most powerful statements made by last night's celebrities at the 2017 Grammys.
Laverne Cox: “Google Gavin Grimm”

Gavin Grimm is a transgender boy who attends Gloucester High School in Virginia; he’s currently taking on the Gloucester County School Board in a lawsuit which will decide whether trans students will be able to use restrooms and facilities that comport with their gender identity. A case so important could set valuable precedents for a whole range of folks, but we haven’t been hearing much about it–Laverne Cox fixed that in a heartbeat by reminding us of his name and his struggle before introducing Lady Gaga’s duet with Metallica.
