Shakira has been a successful singer, both in the Latin and English speaking worlds. So, of course, it would only make sense that her next career movie would be to star in a Bollywood movie?
Yup, you read that right. The fiery singer is set to play a Hindu Goddess in Kaali: The Warrior Goddess, which will be a two-hour feature length film in 3D, shot in CG. But according to producer Karan Arora, Shakira has yet to sign on the dotted line.
Apparently Shakira said yes, but everyone is waiting for the actual papers to be drawn up to see if the songstress will actually sign. Arora also said that they chose Shakira for the starring role because they wanted an international actress and someone who is “dusky.”
As an avid Bollywood fan, there are a few things that worry me about this. First, if Shakira does sign on to play the Hindu goddess Kali, will they have to teach her how to speak in Hindi, or will this movie be primarily in English (can you imagine Shakira speaking in Hindi with her strong Columbian accent? That would be interesting…)?
Secondly, this movie doesn’t sound like it’s going to sit to well with Bollywood watchers. Sure, the 3D will be a bit different, but this film already looks like it’s doomed for failure.
This might not be the smartest of career moves for Shakira, so let’s hope we can chalk this one up to the rumor mill. Although, I would probably watch Kaali: The Warrior Goddess; I’m sure it would, at the very least, be a good laugh.
