With the Mad Men premiere kicking off tonight, we’ll get to see how Don goes about creating “the perfect family” the second time around. But while Don Draper is notorious for his questionable parenting skills, Jon Hamm admits he doesn’t want any kids.
“I’d be a terrible father!” he admitted to Us Weekly. “I see my friends who have children and I’m like, ‘Dude, how are you even upright, much less here at work at 6 a.m.?”
And fair enough! Jon Hamm and longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt (who wrote and directed the recent rom-com, Friends With Kids), are on the same page. And with Jon Hamm aged 41 and Jennifer Westfeldt aged 42, their desire to keep life kid-free seems to be working out for them alright.
“I have thought about [why we never started a family] a lot recently,” Jennifer Westfeldt told the New York Times. “I never thought I’d be this age and not have kids. But my life has also gone in a million ways I never anticipated. I kept feeling like I’d wake up with absolute clarity, and I haven’t. And we have a pretty great life together. The chance that we’ll regret it doesn’t seem like a compelling enough reason to do it. I may wake up tomorrow with that lightning bolt, and I’ll have to scramble to make it happen.”
At least the couple are on the same page. However, that doesn’t mean Jon Hamm hasn’t gushed about January Jones brand new son, Xander.
“He’s cute as a button!” Jon Hamm gushed. (Wonder if that’s what Don said when baby Jean arrived.)
