I'm not going to say there's a right way and a wrong way to have a wedding, but I am going to say that Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden's impromptu nuptuals were probably the greatest thing to ever happen.
First, guess who didn't care: them. I mean, they did (enough to get married), but not in a "photo op for a major publication way." And I respect that. Second, it all happened so fast — one minute news of a rehearsal dinner broke, and the next, Diaz and Madden were officially a married couple, as of Monday January 5.
The ceremony was after dark, took place in Los Angeles, and People magazine reports that Drew Barrymore was a bridesmaid. Nicole Richie's son, Sparrow, was a ring bearer, and Gwenyth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon were also reportedly in attendance. (Also, how amazing is a Monday wedding? Just… yes.)
The duo also kept any and all acknowledgements of said wedding relatively short: "We coudn't be happier to begin our new journey together surrounded by our closest friends and family," they told People. And that was it.
Diaz and Madden had been dating for the last seven months, then got engaged in December, then had a wedding under the guise of a Golden Globes party surrounded by 90 pals. In the words of Montell Jordan, this is how we do it. (I bet he was singing exactly about this event in particular, too.)
