2016 has come to a close (hallelujah), and as we begin the new year there are plenty of entertaining things to look forward to in 2017. Case in point: the crowning of our favourite stars, TV shows and films. While we may be biased in our own selections, there are the committees and critics that have weighed in their top picks and predictions for the 2017 award season, and with that we shall reflect on the good and the snubs, with some past awards' memories that may seemingly repeat this coming season. From returning vets to a new slew of binge-worthy programming, the 2017 awards season has a stack of names and features that we're stoked to see the outcome of.
But before we get to this year's predictions, let's rewind and recall some of the most memorable moments from 2016.
There’s been so much buzz about Manchester by the Sea this year, and if you’ve been fortunate enough to see the movie you know this is Casey Affleck’s year to win big. Period. Even amidst the controversy surrounding his alleged sexual assault allegations. Affleck has found strength on screen, with the critics and alongside his man squad: Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who’ve been his biggest cheerleaders. We’re not here to dispute or argue what in fact is true or not in terms of the allegations, but the one truth that hopefully comes out in 2017 is that Casey Affleck has been an underrated actor for far too long and Manchester by the Sea was made for him to star in.
