Awards Season is Upon Us—Here’s What to Expect

2016 has come to a close (hallelujah), and as we begin the new year there are plenty of entertaining things to look forward to in 2017. Case in point: the crowning of our favourite stars, TV shows and films. While we may be biased in our own selections, there are the committees and critics that have weighed in their top picks and predictions for the 2017 award season, and with that we shall reflect on the good and the snubs, with some past awards' memories that may seemingly repeat this coming season. From returning vets to a new slew of binge-worthy programming, the 2017 awards season has a stack of names and features that we're stoked to see the outcome of.

But before we get to this year's predictions, let's rewind and recall some of the most memorable moments from 2016.

And now for (some of) this year’s predictions….

Let’s talk about the most recent nominations, the Golden Globes. When it comes to two big contenders, Manchester by the Sea and La La Land are frontrunners across the awards board (not just at the GG’s). La La Land has seven Golden Globe nominations including Best Comedy or Musical, Best Director (Damien Chazelle), Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical (Emma Stone) and Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical (Ryan Gosling). Manchester by the Sea is close behind with five nominations including Best Drama, Best Actor (Casey Affleck), Best Actress (Michelle Williams) and Best Director (Kenneth Lonergan). Moonlight is also a big contender in six categories.
