Awards Season is Upon Us—Here’s What to Expect

2016 has come to a close (hallelujah), and as we begin the new year there are plenty of entertaining things to look forward to in 2017. Case in point: the crowning of our favourite stars, TV shows and films. While we may be biased in our own selections, there are the committees and critics that have weighed in their top picks and predictions for the 2017 award season, and with that we shall reflect on the good and the snubs, with some past awards' memories that may seemingly repeat this coming season. From returning vets to a new slew of binge-worthy programming, the 2017 awards season has a stack of names and features that we're stoked to see the outcome of.

But before we get to this year's predictions, let's rewind and recall some of the most memorable moments from 2016.

2016 was also the year of Sterling K. Brown (which will likely continue throughout 2017). His portrayal of Christopher Darden in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story won him an Emmy for best supporting actor in a limited series, and his incredible work on the new tear-jerker drama, This Is Us, is sure to win something come 2017. But, it was his super awesome acceptance speech at the Emmys that did us over. After thanking his wife, saying: “Contrary to popular believe, I got the hottest chick in the game rockin’ my chain” (giving a tap of the hat to Jay Z’s “Public Service Announcement” track), he unintentionally started a trend that then heard other stars including Courtney B. Vance and John Oliver also gush about their wives being “rocks” and “the hottest chain” so the night became a whole lot cuter.
