If you’re like me, your skin is probably looking pretty dull during this time of year. And though some of you may consider hitting the tanning beds (big no-no!) or slathering on the self-tanner to add some life to your dreary-looking complexion, there are actually other options to make your skin glow during these cold winter months.
Here are some expert tips on how to revive your dull winter skin!
Exfoliate
The first step to reviving your skin is exfoliating at least once a week, depending on your skin type. By exfoliating, you are eliminating dead skin cells and encouraging the production of new skin cells (in other words, smoother-looking skin).
Tip: For those with extra sensitive skin, opt for an enzyme exfoliator, as opposed to one with rough particles. My favourite is AmorePacific’s Treatment Enzyme Peel ($75). It contains papain “ a papaya-based enzyme that works to exfoliate the skin without irritation while brightening and evening skintone.
Change up your moisturizer
To combat dry winter skin, consider using a serum before applying your regular moisturizer in the morning. Bioderma Hydrabio Serum ($44) is great for intense hydration. Though marketed towards dry, sensitive skin, it can still be used alone (rather than with a moisturizer) by those with oilier skin types.
Stay hydrated
From going outside in the cold to inside to a heated home, your skin takes a beating and loses a lot of moisture. Keep your skin hydrated by drinking lots of water throughout the day.
Use a cream blush
Cream blushes are great for the winter as they give you that dewy skin you’re craving. Nars The Multiple in Orgasm($46) is a universally-flattering shade, and can not only be used as a blush, but also as an eyeshadow and lipstick.
Use an illuminizer
To give yourself a gorgeous glow, mix in a bit of illuminizer into your foundation. I love Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer ($36) “ just one pump instantly makes my skin look brighter and refreshed.
Tip: If you have oily skin, try Benefit High Beam ($30). This cult-favourite gives you a radiant complexion, without adding shine to your skin.
