Summer has arrived! And that means it’s time to throw away those sneakers and pull out your glam gladiators. Here are a few tips that will get your footsies sandal ready in no time.
Heel Appeal
We use our feet all day every day, so it’s no wonder they take such a beating! Since nobody likes Fred Flintstone feet, here’s a few ways to get your heels feeling fly. Got rough heels? Grab a pumice stone and get to work! Sip on your favourite summer cocktail while you soak your feet in some warm soapy water for 10 to 15 minutes. Then rub any rough areas of your feet in a circular motion to exfoliate the dead skin “ this will work for any calluses you may have too. When you’re finished, make sure you rinse your feet and the stone of any skin you may have lifted. Then simply apply your favourite moisturizer and relax on the nearest lounger. You may have to repeat this a couple times if your heels are extra dry. Note: Your fav summer cocktail can be substituted for a glass of wine or a nice cold beer.
Not into the whole pumice stone idea? A great way get your heels feeling softer, is to treat them to an overnight moisture session! Simply apply Vaseline to dry areas, cover them with socks, and awake to softer heels. This trick may also need to be repeated depending on how dry your feet are.
Tidy Toes
We all want our toes to look like they’ve just stepped out of a spa “ but who can afford it? Pedicure-esque your toes without the pedicure prices! Our favourite treatment for any nail is cuticle oil. Cuticle oil moisturizes dry cuticles while strengthening and nourishing your nail. Simply rub the oil into your nail bed a few times a week.
Shaping your nails and cuticles is the next step to getting perfect spa nails. Use an orangewood stick to gently shape your cuticles and an emery board to file off any rough edges of your nail.
Finally, apply some bright summer polish while you relax by the pool. To check out the latest in nail colours (read Summer’s Top 5 Nail Colours). And don’t forget the top coat. Top coats give your colour that extra hit of shine and keep your colour looking fab longer.
