Gabrielle Union is addressing some of the plastic surgery rumours that have been floating around in the internet. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Union said that she hasn’t gotten a facelift — but she does have one classic trick that she uses instead. The 52-year-old actress shared how a high ponytail can help create the illusion of a facelift.
“A high pony for a lady of a certain age is like a facelift,” Union told the outlet at a promotion for SimStyled, the L.A. salon experience which aims to create red-carpet-worthy hairstyles in two hours or less for customers, at an affordable price. The SimStyled salon experience features eight looks for textured hair which can be achieved utilizing products from Flawless by Gabrielle Union, the haircare line created by Union and her longtime hairstylist Larry Sims.
“As much as what happens or doesn’t happen with my face is speculated, if you can’t be missing for six months to get a facelift—which I’ve never been missing for six months, get it right—the high pony is going to snatch you here,” she explained, reportedly gesturing toward the top of her head. “A pony here is going to snatch you here,” she continued, pointing to the middle of her head. “And a low [pony], here,” she added, referencing the back of her neck.
So, to summarize: it all depends on placement. If you have a high pony, it will “snatch” the top of your face, but a low pony will lift the lower half of your face and neck.
Union emphasized the ease of achieving her ponytail facelift, adding, “A high snatched pony is all you need — and it don’t cost you a thing.”
She also praised the ponytail as one of those classic looks that she was glad never went out of style.
Union’s sentiment comes as fans speculated the identity of the new surgeon transforming many celebrities’ faces, including hers. But, Union maintains that she hasn’t had a facelift and her lifted look is thanks to her hairstyle. According to Union, there’s a reason why the ponytail keeps showing up on the red carpet and in photoshoots with actresses of a certain age.
