Olympian Kelita Zupancic’s Beauty Picks

When you first look at Kelita Zupancic, you would never imagine she is an Olympian judoka. Back from London after competing with Team Canada in her first (and certainly not her last) Olympic games, the 22-year-old blonde beauty is glowing. And she should be. The Whitby, Ont. native has finally fulfilled her childhood dream of competing in the world’s biggest sporting competition, and there’s no stopping her now.

Though she spends most of her time training, traveling, and competing, Kelita always manages to look incredible. Named one of the Globe and Mail‘s most fashion-forward Olympians, Kelita can easily transform from a fierce competitor to a knock-out bombshell. A natural beauty, she credits her flawless skin to her healthy lifestyle, and her beauty secrets to her mom.

We spoke to Kelita at her mom’s restaurant, Jimmy Guaco’s in Oshawa, Ont. about her beauty must-haves.

On her beauty routine:
“I keep my routine low-maintenance, because I’m always on the go. It has to be quick, simple, and waterproof, because I’m always sweating.”

Her skincare regime:
“Because I do judo, skincare is important. People are constantly touching my face, and I’m constantly sweating. Lately, I’ve been getting complimented on my skin a lot. I think it’s because of my healthy lifestyle. I eat a lot of fresh fruit and fish, and I drink a lot of water. I use great skincare products as well, by PR-Fx. I have their cleanser, toner, and their different vitamin creams. I always make sure to use sunscreen too. L’oreal’s Ombrelle Complete is the best one, because it has the titanium dioxide for extra protection.”

Her everyday make-up look:
“For days when I’m not training, I’ll do a light foundation, just maybe on my t-zone. I’ve been using Smashbox’s Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder. I also love Benefit’s Hoola bronzer, because it’s really natural-looking. Stila’s One Step Bronze is also great “ I like the look it gives me.

Since I travel a lot, I’m always tired, so I use the Lancome Effacernes Concealer under my eyes. My lids get really brown, so I use Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer to even it out.

I don’t usually use an eyelash curler¦that’s too much. I’ll usually just put a little bit of eyeliner, and some mascara. Both waterproof. There are none in particular [that I like the best], but right now I’m using Benefit BADgal waterproof mascara and BADgal waterproof liner. The smudge at the end is key. Again, looks more natural.

The lipgloss I like is Urban Decay Lipgloss Junkie in Naked Cowboy. I use it everyday.”

Her go-to “girls night out” look:
“Smoky eye! I always do a smoky eye and a nude lip. I use Carrie Underwood as an example, because I love her style and makeup.”

Her favourite beauty product right now:
“For the Olympics, I bought a Lancome eyeshadow palette. Actually, it was my mom who found it. I loved it so much, I posted it on my Twitter. You can do a smoky, kind of glamorous look, but you can also tone it down, since it looks quite natural. I’m wearing a little bit of it right now. Ever since I bought it, I’ve been using it.”

Travel essentials:
“What’s great for travelling is the Urban Decay NAKED palette. I don’t go anywhere without it! Makeup wipes are also key. I would never go on a plane without wipes. They are a MUST. Then, I always use baby powder for my hair, especially if it gets greasy. I baby powdered it today! [Ed note: her hair looked fantastic]. It’s great for when the rest of your hair looks fine, but it’s just the top that needs work! And it keeps you from washing your hair everyday. I bring a travel-size with me. Anything that is travel-sized is key for me. It lightens your luggage. I always carry all my makeup with me on the plane, so it needs to be lightweight.”

The one beauty product she can never live without:
“Mascara! It always makes me feel pretty.”

Best beauty tip:
“SLEEP! If you don’t get enough sleep, you look exhausted, and just don’t look yourself. I’m for sure in bed before 11 every night, and I wake up at 8am. Any other beauty secrets, I’ve learned from my mom. I’m constantly trying out her stuff. When she was younger, she would always have to buy her spring collection of makeup, and her fall makeup. I got my love for beauty products from her.”
