Word on the street is that Angelina Jolie is tapped to be Louis Vuitton’s latest celebrity spokesperson since the fashion house has yet to confirm or deny the addition of Mrs. Pitt to their roster ‘o famous folk.
The rumour mill has reported that the actress has just signed a $10 million dollar deal with the designer supreme, and will showcase the clothes that British Vogue has dubbed “the sexiest Vuitton collection ever”, inspired by the lobby of Claridge hotel and its “possible sexual exploits”. Yikes. (And to be clear, it’s officially fair to stop collar tugging in awkwardness after the mid-2000s Jolie-Pitt situation, right?)
If you recall, the F/W 2011 collection is tight, short and saw the comebacks of Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, and the creative director is none other than Marc Jacobs himself. (Thus, we can acknowledge the inevitable name-dropping of celebrity spokespeople.)
But the real question of the hour remains: is Angelina Jolie “hip” enough to take on the undertaking of a major fashion contract circa 2011? True, the woman is recognizable in every nation, but unlike the Victoria Beckhams and Drew Barrymores, Ms. Jolie-Pitt seems a far cry from the typical spokesperson for such campaigns.
Or maybe that’s the idea. We should all just be grateful it’s not Gwyneth Paltrow.
