Favourite Fall Shoes and Boots

Fall 2010 footwear has many choices, from fall’s best boots to menswear-inspired oxfords to kitten heel pumps. Here’s what to be on the lookout for:

Ankle boots:
Also known as ankle booties or shooties, these boots are truly made for walking! While they’ve been popular for a couple of seasons now, this year’s ankle boots have modern appeal with peep toes, stiletto heels, and zippers. Go for a bit of a rocker touch with black laces and studs, or aim for a military-inspired look with buckles.

Tips: If you’re unsure of how to wear your new ankle boots, think of the silhouette and shape of some of fall’s fashion trends. Booties will look fantastic with leather leggings and an oversized sweater. They can be accessorized for an evening look or toned down for a casual-meets-trendy feel.

Flats:
Ballet flats have become a classic in the world of fashion and are here to stay, at least for now. With so many different styles, shoe lovers will face difficulty deciding between metallic accents, soft black leather, cute bows, or lace detail. Consider purchasing a pair which will be long-lasting and perhaps neutral, making them great to combine with a greater number of clothes.

Knee-high or over-the-knee boots:
Boots are huge this fall, and there’s nothing like a pair of tall high-heeled or flat boots to add interest to a simple outfit. With everyone from university students to Hollywood celebrities sporting this trend, OTK (over-the-knee) boots may be 2010’s statement footwear. They look great over skinny jeans or jeggings, whether the boots are pirate style, slouchy, or feature pointed toes and pencil heels.

Kitten-heeled pumps:
Delicate and ladylike, kitten heels are definitely much easier to walk in than traditional heels, while still adding sophistication to a woman’s wardrobe at typically two inches or lower. Popularized in the 1950’s, they have now made their comeback in 2010 and are perfect for the office with a pencil skirt.

Clogs:
Fur-trimmed, chunky-heeled and creatively shaped, clogs may not be everyone’s favourite trend this season, but can definitely look trendy if styled correctly. A less gaudy pair will be easier to wear and leave you with more outfit options as well.

Tips: Well-tailored skinny jeans and a light-coloured, silky blouse with a pair of clogs and a statement necklace are an example of a high-fashion trend working its way into the average woman’s wardrobe, when combined with less distracting pieces. Go with fitted bottoms as opposed to say, harem pants, in order to keep your look from getting sloppy. Happy shoe shopping!
