“That’s Fire!”: The Best Moments From The Royal Wedding

Have you recovered yet? The world is celebrating today as honorary Canadian Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were married today at at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. It was a truly touching ceremony that brought together the Royals with a host of high-wattage Hollywood celebrities (Oprah, the Clooneys, Serena Williams) and a big Canadian contingent, including Jessica and Ben Mulroney and their children (who played a big part in the ceremony), and much of the cast of Suits, which happens to be mostly Canadian.

Attendees aside, the ceremony felt more intimate and personal than ever before, with the bride walking herself partially down the aisle, and then escorted by the groom’s father Prince Charles; a moving address by the Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry from Chicago, who quoted Martin Luther King Jr.; and a gospel choir singing Stand By Me. All of that, and tears, plenty of tears, Harry’s lip biting, shy smiles, a beautiful wedding dress that no one was expecting, and that kiss! Here, we run down the best moments of the day.

Harry & Meghan Arrive At The Chapel

Prince Harry arrived at the Chapel with best man Prince William in full military uniform. And we swooned. He just has that swagger, you know? He looked fine and he knew it.

And then Meghan arrived, wearing a dress that exceeded all of our wedding dreams and expectations. Rumours had been circulating for weeks that the dress would be designed by Ralph & Russo (which conjured all sorts of beading and embroidery), but Meghan shocked us all with this incredible, sleek Givenchy gown designed by Brit Claire Waight Keller.

Its minimalist vibe evoked the modern silhouette of the Narciso Rodriguez gown worn by Caroline Bessette Kennedy in her marriage to John Kennedy Jr., while the major train (held up by the Mulroney twins) called to mind Harry’s mom Princess Di’s epic train.

Walking Down The Aisle
After Meghan’s father Thomas Markle Sr. backed out of the ceremony after getting heart surgery, Prince Charles stepped up to the plate to walk Meghan down the aisle. It was a touching display of solidarity with Harry and Meghan and of welcoming her to the family.

Harry Losing His Shit
When Meghan joined Harry at the altar, he kind of lost his shit in an epically Harry way by telling her “You look amazing!” and then biting his lip like a shy school boy. It was the cutest thing ever and is still giving us all the feels.

Leave it to Prince Harry to bring levity to the situation by cracking jokes and proving that he did, in fact lose his shit, in this moment:

And doing his best to keep his shit together as he wiped away tears:

The Powerful Sermon on Love
The Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry of Chicago brought energy and life to what are typically very staid and earnest proceedings. His impassioned speech on love brought laughter and tears (and even a few dropped jaws from the British uppercrust). That’s fire!

The Vows
Harry and Meghan were all smiles as they said their vows. Notice Meghan’s proud mom Doria Ragland trying to keep it together as she watches her daughter. Rumour is that Doria might be interviewed by Oprah after the wedding, which would explain the big O’s presence there. We’ll have to wait and see!

Presenting The Happy Couple
The newly married couple make a graceful exit from the chapel with their gaggle of flower girls in tow. The crowd cheers as they witness the couple and they make their final kiss on the steps outside.

The Carriage Ride
The couple makes their historic ride through the town of Windsor in a horse-drawn carriage, waving to fans and admirers along the way.

Inside the carriage (and throughout the ceremony) the couple held hands the whole way. True love! We are living for this day!

The dress would be perfect with a little beading and embroidery, not too much.
