As the seasons change, so do our makeup tendencies, and more often than not, those of us with itchy fingers always need cool, new products to obsess over as the weather turns chilly and the daylight hours slowly decrease. Call it a coping mechanism if you will: whether you’re looking for a way to jazz up your own kit or simply planning your seasonal shopping way in advance, here are the fall makeup launches that we’re dying to play with.
Fenty Beauty By Rihanna
We’re not quite sure what’s been more exciting about the lead-up to the Fenty Beauty release: it might be the fact that Rihanna hasn’t said much about what we can expect from the collection, or it might be that we’re finally going to have some deeper understanding of how Rihanna prefers her makeup. Whatever the case, this collection looks insanely good (it helps that she has partnered with Kendo, the beauty brand incubator behind the Kat Von D and Marc Jacobs Beauty lines). UPDATE: As of September 7, we’ve gotten more glimpses of Fenty Beauty, with the image above being the biggest reveal yet.
Here’s what we’ve gleaned so far from the teasers she’s been dropping on her Insta: the line, which drops at Sephora on September 8, will feature millennial pink packaging and some seriously good-looking highlighters (above). And we’re guessing from the online promo that the makeup is based on a “you but better approach” to makeup that emphasizes women’s natural beauty.
The Fenty Beauty collection will also be one of the most inclusive we’ve seen yet, featuring 40 shades of foundation, which Rihanna confirmed in a DM to fan site @rihannadailybeauty. “Gotta represent for my girls and we come in all shades! Especially my brown sisters… been left out too many times in the makeup world.” Either way, it’s a good bet that the collection is going to sell out within minutes, so keep your eyes on the prize if you’ve been a die-hard RiRi fan since the days of Pon de Replay.
M.A.C X Nicki Minaj
Speaking of celebrity makeup lines, the inevitable is finally approaching. Following a glorious, brown-girl-friendly collaboration with Taraji P. Henson earlier this year, M.A.C is keeping the good feeling going for us makeup aficionados of colour with a collaboration with the one and only Ms. Nicki Minaj. Nicki helped M.A.C formulate two entirely new nude lip shades with varying shades of pale pink and pale blush, which means that all of us can soon look like the Pinkprint Barbie with just a swipe of lipstick. (Just an FYI: The M.A.C x Taraji P. Henson will also be returning for an exciting round two, featuring additional, all-new lipstick and Lipglass shades.)
Too Faced Peaches & Cream Comfort Matte Collection
Too Faced’s bizarre obsession with letting food inspire makeup continues — seriously, does anyone actually want either peaches or cream anywhere near their face? Their latest collection offers a new foundation, a new eye palette, a matte bronzer and a mattifying setting powder, but ostensibly, the things most of us will squeal over will be the hyper-cute packaging of the “melting powder” blush, bronzer (it looks like pie!) and highlighter from this collection. (Also, what does that powder actually melt into; do powders even melt?)
Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Palette
Huda’s Rose Gold Textured Eye Palette (pictured, bottom right) absolutely dominated the scene when it emerged sometime last year — beauty addicts couldn’t look sideways without running into someone doing a tutorial on warm smokey eyes or the perfect gold foil eye look. So entrepreneur extraordinaire Huda Kattan decided to give us a glorious round two with the Desert Dusk Palette. The inspiration comes through so incredibly well — the burnt oranges, rust tones and vibrant plum shades perfectly mimic the beauty of a sunset in desert country — and the formulation is just as good as the infamous Rose Gold number, so it’s very likely that this palette’s going to be taking over our social media feeds for the next couple of months as well…
Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Lila Palette
Natasha Denona Makeup is one of those brands that only those of us with gold-level credit cards usually reach for, but if you are one of us after all, it might be time to break the bank again. The Lila Palette (which drops September 12), presents a lovely range of of the tan-to-mauve-to-berry spectrum that look like they’d place very well on almost any skin tone, and if we hadn’t said it before, now might be the time to say it definitively: glitter, and purple glitter especially, will be a trend for the rest of this year.
Pat McGrath Permanent Collection
If you haven’t heard of makeup virtuoso Pat McGrath by now, it’s time to change that for good. Her much-buzzed-about Permanent Collection displays every single reason why she’s the reigning queen of runway makeup — this lady just knows colour and luxury in a way that surpasses even the Tom Fords and Marc Jacobs(s) in the makeup world, and it’s probably because she’s been doing it for decades. The Permanent Collection features her classic choice in lip colours — (with gloriously decadent packaging marked by golden lips) — and eyeshadow palettes, and for what it’s worth, they all seem like instant classics. The Mothership Palette is expected to drop any moment on Sephora.com, so keep your eyes peeled.
ColourPop Cosmetics In Canada!
Finally, here’s some good news everyone can enjoy: ColourPop is finally coming to Sephora. The LA-based brand has a huge following because of its gorgeous range of colours and products that always deliver, and usually cost within the $10 price range. For a while now, the line has only been accessible to those makeup nerds who sought it out specifically, but Sephora is going to democratize the process: come November, we’ll all be able to access the quality eyeshadows and liquid lipsticks that have made ColourPop the cult favourite they are. (Let’s just hope Canada gets the same releases the US does on this one!)
