How to Travel Solo in Paris

Travelling to Paris alone might be something you've always wanted to do. Or maybe it's your only option. Corralling your friends into a girls' vacation simply can be difficult, and your partner's work schedule is out of whack. Things like weddings, honeymoons, work life and cash and, sorry to say, a difficult pal can get in the way. TBH, walking the streets of Paris, without having a girlfriend complain about jet lag, the price of the Euro or whatever, is pretty sweet. (Although shopping the sales at Galeries Lafayette with the right friend or strolling along Parisian streets hand-in-hand with my love are pretty good, too.) Here are our top picks for enjoying Paris on your own.

Dinner for one

If you’re not a fan of dining in a restaurant on your own in your own city, then even the charm of Paris could nudge to make a reservation for one in the City of Light. You could take advantage of hotel restaurants that are accustomed to solo diners, like Caméla at the Mandarin Oriental, for a fancy treat for yourself. But also, try a cooking class dinner. Tons of Parisians do this. I took a French cooking class, that was taught in French too. It’s like the movie Ratatouille IRL. Not only was it tré¨s fun, but it was the best damn meal I ever made myself. Before you freak out, hold the mon dieu. Paris offers many English-speaking cooking schools, including the buzzy Le Foodist. Classes can include a visit to the market, wine pairing lessons and recipe instruction for a French dish. If you end up loving it, you can even do it for lunch the next day. The teamwork in making the dish has the whole class interacting. You’d have to be completely unapproachable not to make a new friend. And we know, that’s just not you.
