September already!? No need to be blue. Even though the heat is still making a case for itself, it certainly doesn’t mean we’re not all thinking about the days when denim and sweaters become uniform, and layers are simply a matter of natural selection. Like any new season, this fall is full of new must-haves from brand new cuts to perfect prints. You’re going to want to be in the know with denim trends for fall 2011. It’s all about leaving the norm behind and letting your wildchild roam free.
Coloured Denim
Walk away from the basic blues. Step into a rich colour palette in every cut from flare to extra-skinny, as this autumn calls for burgundies, purples, deep reds, and taupes. Pair your coloured ultra skinnies with your favourite pair of booties, or dress up coloured denim with a simple heel.

Zip Me Up
Dark skinnies are updated with zippers, zippers and more zippers. From pocket detailing both back and front, to ankle and back seams, zippers are popping up on everyone’s favourite classic pant. Unzip your skinnies for a little something extra when your shoes are high.

Printed
Lions and tigers and bears….okay, not quite. But lace and snakeskin and leopard? WE LIKE! Fun prints call for an ultra-subtle top. Pair your bottoms with a sleek and simple sweater in black, or a basic tank. Likewise on the bottom, a simple riding boot or platform bootie in black keeps the focus on your major print.

Trouser
Jeans to work? Not only for Casual Friday! The trouser jean works well with a blazer for the office, but transforms into a well-played choice for the weekend when you want a lean line to make elongate your legs. Best kept chic with a pair of heels, trouser jeans in a dark shade are the ultimate in smart casual.

Super Sheen
Coated jeans are an amazing choice for dressing up or down. With it’s leather-like texture, pair it with a girly lace top. Amp up your badgirl factor by pairing these with a printed shoe (see: leopard print wedge for details).

Very Velvet
Looks rich, feels comfy. Because velvet is such a luxe fabric, keep your top simple, or even overtly casual. Big chunky sweaters or a basic cotton v-neck work best with these bottoms. Stay away from heels. Unlike the printed denim, this look is best.
