Halloween in Hollywood is no joke. And why should it be? Celebrities have make-up artists and stylists at their beck and call and they can totally afford to put together insane and extravagant costumes. And they have! So much so, that Halloween has becomes a secret competition of, “Who did it better?” between A-listers.
If you’re in need of a little costume inspiration, here’s a look back at some of the best Halloween costumes our eyes have ever seen, worn by some of our favourite celebs:
Best Throwback: Miley Cyrus, 2013
Love or hate the girl, it takes a certain amount of guts to pull off this costume. If anyone was going to do it, obviously it was going to be Miley. Last year, she pulled off the ultimate throwback by paying homage to Lil Kim's revealing 1999 MTV Video Music Awards outfit. The only thing missing was getting the real Lil kim to squeeze Miley's boob, but I guess you can't have everything.
Best Family Ensemble: Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, 2013
Cute doesn’t even begin to describe this family’s incredible costume ensembles. Neil Patrick Harris, his husband David Burtka and their two darling kids make coordinated Halloween costumes look super fun. Adopt us, please? Maybe this year, we can all go out as the characters of Frozen and belt out the entire musical soundtrack as we go trick-or-treating. Can we, CAN WE?!
Best Scary Costume: Demi Lovato, 2013
Demi Lovato pulled a Cady Heron (you know, Linday Lohan’s character from Mean Girls) and actually decided to wear a scary costume on Halloween. Crazy, right? Fake blood, tattered clothes and those eyes — we’re pretty sure no one was begging to do a staring contest with her that night.
Best Accessory: Iggy Azalea, 2013
So we were almost going to crown our “Fancy” girl Iggy with best hair until we saw her four-legged friend. Why have fake accessories when you can have the real thing? Cruella would be proud. Yes, she’s still missing 98 dalmatians but we’ll let that go.
Best Couple Costume: Cindy Crawford and Randy Gerber, 2013
Still thinking about what to wear with your beau this Halloween? Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke is so last year. Sandy and Danny from Grease, getting old. If you want something that’s truly badass, take a tip from Cindy Crawford and her man Randy Gerber. Last year, they dressed up as Slash and Axl Rose from the band Guns N’ Roses. How effin’ cool is that? The coolest.
Best of the worst: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, 2012
UGH. Like seriously guys, nobody’s asking you to put in Heidi Klum effort (see our last pick) but don’t tell me KStew and RPatz can’t afford to drop a couple bucks for an actual costume. This is laziness at it’s finest.
Best Day of the Dead Costume: Fergie and Josh Duhamel, 2013
Who knew celebrating Day of the Dead would also mean so much face paint? Who knew face paint could look this good? Bravo, guys.
Best Celebrity Lookalike: Ellen Degeneres, 2013
Besides Miley Cyrus, the celeb everyone wants to copycat this Halloween season is Nicki Minaj. And quite frankly that’s going to be hard to do, because no one can really top Ellen’s boobilicious costume last year. Ellen makes a pretty great Nicki. Have you seeeeeen her “Anaconda” video?
Best Besties Ensemble: Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, 2013
Cover up all they want, but we know who’s hiding under those matching fisherman costumes. It’s silly, absolutely ridiculous and if it was on anyone else, we would probably hate it. But come on, it’s Sandra and Melissa. We wouldn’t expect any less from these funny ladies.
Best Overall: Heidi Klum, 2013
Heidi Klum is hands down the Queen of Halloween. Her costume game is so on point, she probably has huge annual meetings with her make-up artists and stylists just to discuss how she can top her previous year’s Halloween costume. And somehow she’s been able to outdo herself every time. She’s been everything from a Hindu goddess, an ape and Lady Godiva. But our personal favourite was when she showed up as an elderly woman to her annual Halloween bash last year. AN ELDERLY WOMAN. With head-to-toe wrinkles, blotchy skin and thin hair. The woman deserves all the Halloween candy in the world.
