Ariana Grande's Custom Schiaparelli Oscar Dress Was Based On This S/S 2025 Haute Couture Dress

Ariana Grande floated down the red carpet at the 97th annual Academy Awards on Sunday evening wearing a striking bubble-inspired creation by Schiaparelli Couture. Grande’s custom pale pink gown featured a fitted satin bodice with a sweetheart neckline, purposely exposed bra, stiff scalloped edges over her hips, and a floaty, sparkling sheer skirt which hid her shoes.

“This is Schiaparelli by Daniel Roseberry and I’m so honoured to be wearing it. It’s just my favourite dress in the world,” Grande said on the red carpet. “I’m so grateful that I got to spend this moment wearing this.”

The first-time nominee worked with longtime stylist Mimi Cuttrell to craft the Oscar look, which featured at least 190,000 crystals shimmering all over the bubble-inspired skirt.

Grande completed her look with a De Beers diamond choker and matching stud earrings. As for her glam, Grande opted for the same soft ethereal look that she’s been sporting throughout the entire Wicked press tour. Hairstylist Alyx Liu crafted Grande’s hair into a sleek up-do, while makeup artist Michael Anthony relied on soft blush and icy highlighter or a soft rosy look that ensured the actress glowed on the red carpet.

Grande’s Oscar dress was based off of a similar dress from Schiaparelli Couture’s recent spring/summer 2025 haute couture collection, which was shown on the runway during Paris Couture Fashion Week in January. Roseberry named the collection Icarus, because the Greek myth denotes the ambition to fly higher.

“Haute Couture aspires to reach great heights; it promises escape from our complicated reality,” Roseberry wrote in his show notes. “It also reminds us that perfection comes at a price. How high can we couturiers go? As high as the sun—and the Gods—allow us.”

The original dress which was shown on the runway, known as look 3, was in a much lighter champagne hue. Roseberry studied techniques from the Art Deco-informed 1920s and ’30s, and the Hollywood glam of the ’50s when creating the collection and was reportedly inspired by an archival lamp by Swiss sculptor and frequent Elsa Schiaparelli collaborator Alberto Giacometti when he designed the bustier that expanded into the elegant peplum.

Grande—who is going by her full legal name, Ariana Grande-Butera, this evening—is nominated for her work as Wicked‘s Glinda the Good Witch in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category. She previously described Glinda as her “dream role.” She is nominated alongside Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez).
