The Ultimate Spring 2011 Workout Playlist

It’s time to bust out the running shoes and take to the streets: after being cooped up all winter, springtime calls for some QT outdoors, and in celebration of budding trees, green grass and the occasional patio-appropriate afternoon (maybe one day it’ll stop raining), we’ve assembled a follow-up to our original Workout Playlist. This time with added awesome.

1. Title: Judas
Artist: Lady Gaga
Crank it up because: It’s not “Born This Way”, and that in itself is a reason to celebrate.

2. Title: Heads Will Roll
Artist: Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Crank it up because: The tempo will make you want to run with your fists in the air Rocky-style – or at least give you the attitude needed to simultaneously kick ass and take names. Take that, bathing suit season.

3. Title: I Want You
Artist: Summer Camp
Crank it up because: Starting with a slower vibe and picking up once the beat drops, this is the perfect track to kick off your workout routine and keep you amped throughout it.

4. Title: The Beat and the Pulse
Artist: Austra
Crank it up because: It’s normally hard to feel badass when wearing track pants and an oversize hoodie (hello, go-to workout gear), but this song will make you feel like the star of a police film with incredibly dramatic montages.

5. Title: Not In Love
Artist: Crystal Castles (feat. Robert Smith)
Crank it up because: It’s impossible not to move when Crystal Castles are involved. And if Alice Glass can tour the world with a broken foot, you can run that extra mile.

6. Title: All Summer
Artist: Best Coast, Kid Cudi, Rostam Batmanglij
Crank it up because: It combines hip-hop, rock ‘n roll and the feeling you get on a beautiful summer day. And even if you’re running on a treadmill, you’ll be convinced that you’re in California.

7. Title: King of the Beach
Artist: Wavves
Crank it up because: That’s the way you’ll feel when you’re sprinting down it.

8. Title: Til the World Ends
Artist: Britney Spears
Crank it up because: By no means should Britney Spears ever be left off a workout playlist. Ever.

9. Title: Monster
Artist: Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj
Crank it up because: This should be everybody’s workout anthem. All day. All the time. Or at least Nicki Minaj’s verse (which personally got me through Christmas shopping this year.)

10. Title: Girls (Should Run the World)
Artist: Beyonce
Crank it up because: Once you’re on the last stretch of your workout, you’ll end with a heartfelt “YES!”

Hi Nancy. I just purchased your book and video. I have to wait until I get home to dwnalood it though, so I haven’t checked it out yet. I am really curious about something your family (mom, dad, siblings if you have any). In a lot of videos you say that you didn’t have a lot of people in your life- that it was just you and your husband and daughter. But its hard to imaging a Puerto Rican mom not bothering with you, LOL! I had one of those. I would think she would be so proud!
