Skating trail at Arrowhead Park

If you want to step up the skating experience and get out of the city to a truly majestic environment, head to Arrowhead Provincial Park in Muskoka. Rent a Zipcar, pack in your honey love and take an adventure. The Ice Trail is one of the best kept secrets (that’s not really a secret anymore) for those wishing to embark on a 1.3 km skating trail through the Muskoka forest. Generally the trail opens the first week in January and stays open until the second week in March, but of course this is dependent on weather. Keep in mind this is a good day date as the trail closes in the evening. If you don’t have skates you can rent them there for $10, and there’s also skate sharpening for those interested. If skating isn’t your thing the provincial park also has 28km of classic ski trails, 16km of skate ski trails as well as snowshoeing trails and there is even a tubing hill. After you two are all worn out you can cuddle in one of the heating stations, which comes equipped with wood burning stoves.
