Unusual Hair Tools That Will Wow You

Sometimes you need great hair in a hot minute.  Whether you're trying to achieve timeless looks like loose waves or want a messy chignon, these unexpected hair tools to cut down your style time:

Corkscrew pin
The lazy updo is every girl's BFF.  Now Goody has made being lazy even easier with their magic corkscrew-inspired pins called “Spin Pins” that are twisted and hidden into a messy bun to hold the hair in place.  Instead of having to use countless bobby pins to maintain a hold, you only need two of these – and the size is perfect so unlike the small pins these will never go missing in the bottom of your purse.
Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin, $7 (Available at Walmart).

Beachy Waves Made Easy
Trying to achieve that loose wave that apparently comes so naturally to the bleach blonde ladies down under can be next to impossible, especially if you already have curly hair.  Hair stylist Kevin Murphy offers up this look in a do-it-yourself Surfer Girl Kit.  By using one product and about 6 plastic butterfly clips depending on the length of the hair – its as easy as clamping the clips around your finger and blowing dry to set.  Hello Kate Hudson. Kevin Murphy Surfer Girl Kit, $36 (Available at delineation.ca).

The 3D Hair Brush
This Canadian-designed brush has patented technology that not only detangles and cuts blow dry time in half, it adds shine and is said to increase the health of the hair.  With three different types of bristles: White Boar, Black Boar, and Nylon, the hair is smoothed easily, or you can use it to add volume or create frizz-free waves.  Hotheads 3D Hair Brush, $24.50 (for Medium size. Available at delineation.ca).

The clamp-less curling iron
One of the best ways to achieve great curls or add volume without looking like a beauty pageant contestant is to say "no" to the clamp on the barrel of your curling iron.  The Amika curling wands  simply require you to wrap hair around the barrel so you don't get that obvious 'kink' in your curls. The result is soft, bouncy waves. Amika 13mm Curling Wand, $110 (Available at folica.com).
