Spring is in the air! And on our nails. Two very apparent trends appeared on the runway this season, with complete opposite effects. Nude nails ruled supreme, lending a sophisticated, fresh approach to collections, while bright, bold tips added a shot of glamour and whimsy.
Here are our top picks for tips this season.
NUDES:
Kenzo, Giambatitsta Valli, Desigual and Manish Arora all went soft for spring, and backstage staple MAC lent them all a hand in creating the looks. Lucky for us ladies, their MAC is Beauty collection actually includes the pastel shades used on the runway, so we can recreate the looks at home. To Dye For, a peachy nude, flatters subtly, while French Tipped lends a soft pink tone.
Narciso Rodriguez rode the nude nail trend with a tonal caramelly-camel shade, while Giorgio Armani showed us a slick matte bronze shade. Althought not quite nude, Tibi did a clean, white nail that looked fresh and bright, and Peter Som showed a smoky, cloudy grey that looked really unpredictable and cool for spring.
Lela Rose showed us a barely there nude nail, with two fingers dotted with tiny silver studs; understated nail art, anyone? Tracy Reese also dipped her toe (finger) in a delicate rendition of nail art by marbling a honey shade, creating a swirled effect.
Both BCBG and Reem Acra went for a tried and true OPI shade, Bubble Bath, that has walked more runways than Cara Delevingne and Kate Moss combined. The perfect milky shade of pink, it exemplifies why nude nails are pretty and chic. Rachel Zoe showed a more literal shade of nude, swiping on Butter London’s Tea With the Queen, while nail queen Jin Soon topped her rosy beige shade, Jin Soon Nostalgia, with a soft pink, Jin Soon Muse, over at Derek Lam.
BRIGHTS:
There were a select few bright shades that made a reoccurring appearance on the runway, and classic, bright red was joyously one of them. Iconic, sexy and the epitome of glamour, Zac Posen showed a bright, candy apple red manicure, while Carolina Herrera painted the town red with Essie’s creamy, classic A List.
Giles showed a bolder nail, using MAC’s rich, bold shades of Imperial Green, a deep yet bright emerald, and Kashmir Blue, a strong, royal shade, both from the Bao Bao collection. Reed Krakoff showed a similar taste for brights and had models’ nails painted a bold cobalt blue, while Karen Walker had the best of both and showed a deep, shimmering turquoise shade.
Designers Veronica Beard and Alice + Olivia both showed a peachy, coral shade, while Delpozo used Essie’s bright peach Tart Deco shade to create the of-the-moment negative space manicure.
A Dé©tacher had model’s in a brighter orange hue, while Jenny Packham chose a bright orangey-red tone.
No matter the mood, there’s a mani right for you!
