Say goodbye to neon and au revoir to pastels. You’ll be feeling like a femme fatale in no time once you deck out your digits in one of these sumptuous, dark new nail polishes shades.
Forget about your usual cherry-inspired reds. For this season, you want a scarlet with a little more oomph, like Katy Perry did at the MTV Europe Awards. A vampy crimson will tell the world you mean business.
At first glance, brown may seem like an odd choice for nail polish, but it can be surprisingly sophisticated. Plus, you don’t have to dress up to do the colour justice “ it can be casual enough to wear with your comfy fall wardrobe. Think autumn leaves or choose a rich chestnut shade for a 70s retro vibe.
Deep purples are the perfect replacement for the boring black of seasons past. They’re much more wearable “ you still get that goth vibe, with just a little more warmth. You can also try a dark gunmetal grey for another alternative to basic black.
Get your hands on a glittery shade or just enhance your regular polish with a glittery topcoat. The look is more gritty than girly this year, so don’t just go with a wimpy shimmer “ embrace this trend wholeheartedly by opting for a chunky metallic with some texture in it. Katy Perry rocked the look with some disco glitter at the Teen Choice awards last month.
Glitter not your thing? Try a flat, matte version of one of your favourite fall colours, like OPIs matte rendition of their famous Russian Navy shade. Make sure that you add lots of coats to get the maximum impact of the matte trend.
This fall, do nude nail polish with an edge by looking for a matte beige shade that almost matches your skin tone. Think saturated putty tones rather than sheer pinkish shades.
Get a bit playful with your nail polish by adding a textured effect to your talons, with patterns of lace, rhinestones, or ripple marks from your polish application.
Mix it Up
Break the rules by sporting different colours on your nails. Alternate between two colours or just paint one rogue nail a mismatching colour for a bit of fun.
