Dua Lipa Wore Chanel Couture For Her Italian Wedding Ceremony

On Saturday morning, Dua Lipa quietly dropped the portraits from her and Callum Turner’s three-day Italian wedding and we finally have a look at her ceremony dress and it’s Dua-coded perfection. 

The buzz surrounding Lipa’s wedding dress was that it was going to be a bespoke design from Versace, but in a not-so-surprising plot twist the pop star wore a bespoke Chanel Couture gown by Matthieu Blazy. Lipa is a Chanel ambassador, so this fashion power move is an obvious choice. This wedding dress marks the first one Blazy has designed for the house, and what a zeitgeist moment it is.

Lipa gave us a look inside her lavish wedding day, held at the historic 18^th century Sicilian palace Villa Valguarnera, with a nine-pic Instagram carousel post which racked up more than a million likes in 30 minutes. The caption was simple: “Mr & Mrs.” The images by renowned photographer David Sims are emo filled, and the post opens with a dreamy pic of the newlyweds embracing beneath Lipa’s cloud of a tulle-and-lace veil. The bride saves the first full-length look of her wedding dress until slide two and what revelation it is: a glorious haute couture gown trimmed in all of Blazy’s signature Chanel details.  

Lipa’s halter neckline wedding dress features an elaborately jeweled neckline and glittering back detailing. In addition to heavy, hand-embroidered crystal embellishments, the gown also features incredible feather detailing—the trumpet skirt and sweeping two-meter train were elaborately trimmed and underlined with 25,000 ostrich feathers by Lemarié. Lipa wore a matching feathery headpiece and cathedral-length veil. The dress is an incredibly glamourous, otherworldly creation that was perfectly on point for Lipa’s personal style which is always about making a big statement without going too OTT.

Some fun facts about Lipa’s otherworldly Chanel Couture gown. It was handcrafted in the Chanel ateliers at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris. The dress is embroidered with 48,000 beads by Atelier Montrex and trope l’oeil jewels. The needlework by Lesage took more the 1,155 hours to complete. Lipa’s veil was six meters long and was hand embroidered with beads, organza appliqués and feathers.

Feathers were definitely a theme of Lipa’s wedding wardrobe. For her welcome party, she wore a leather and feather Bottega Veneta gown that also featured a halter neckline and plunging back. The trio of wedding looks Lipa served for her event have set new standard in iconic bridal styling. Her civil ceremony look which was a modern homage to Bianca Jagger’s legendary 1971 Yves Saint Laurent, was still maybe the chicest and statement making of them all.

As for what the groom wore for the formal event, Turner chose a slim cut, classic tuxedo accessorized with a singular red bloom on his lapel. The look was impeccable and classically Bond…is there a secret message in Turner’s fit choice?
