Hacks star Meg Stalter made a sartorial statement by taking a more casual approach to the 77th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night. Stalter opted for straight-leg blue jeans and a white T-shirt on the annual Emmy red carpet at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, breaking the events formal dress code.

Stalter also wore a pair of black flats, a black belt, black sunglasses, silver jewelry, and carried a black bag that said “cease fire!” She added a subtle pop of colour to her look with red lipstick and red nail polish. Her long, dark hair was parted in the center and styled in soft waves.

Speaking with Variety on the red carpet, the actress said her shirt was Hanes brand and her jeans were Levi’s.

“I think people need to bring back jeans on the red carpet,” Stalter told Variety. “They were in the ’90s… there’s no rules. You’re allowed to do what you want.”

Starter also spoke about the all cap message on her black bag, which referred to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and called for an end to hostilities.

“It’s the most important to stick up for people and for peace,” she told Variety on the red carpet. “We have to use our platforms. What’s the point of being at these big events if you’re not going to use your privilege?”

Stalter is no stranger to taking bizarre fashion risks. In July she made an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert wearing a DIY look that include a white strapless top featuring a photo of herself in front of an American flag along with the words “Meg Stalter is the prettiest girl in America.” And, then there is her Diet Coke dress that she wore to the Las Culturistas award that same month.
