Strawberry Shortcake hair is a real thing and we’re dying for it…
With the remake of ’80s cult-favourite, cartoon series Strawberry Shortcake, rainbow hues have never been more, well in. Pint-sized in pastel hues, the fruity animated characters represented the ultimate girl gang long before Kourtney, Kim and Khloe, Taylor Swift and her squad or even, Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha ever hit our radar. Spunky and optimistic with berry cute names, the take-home, sweet-smelling teeny, tiny dolls became an overnight must-have toy and their tagline, Life is Delicious, gave us a whole lot of feels.
Now, with their television comeback (rumour has it, the gang ditched Bitty Berry City for the big apple), they’re also giving us a whole lot of hair colour inspiration.
Strawberry Shortcake’s original bright red bangs and choppy bob have grown into a flowing, hot pink style that have had Nicki Minaj, Bella and Gigi Hadid and Hailey Baldwin painting on varying shades of pink. Lemon Meringue and Orange Blossom’s once mop of curls have also grown up and grown out into smooth Crayola yellow and copper-tinged brown styles, making them the favoured copycat looks for life-sized stars like Julianne Hough, Amy Adams, Lily Rose Depp and Isla Fisher.
You don’t have to shop the toy aisle to get your Plum Pudding, Raspberry Torte (formerly known as Raspberry Tart, but renamed to *cough* keep up with the *cough* politically correct times), Blueberry Muffin or Cherry Jam fix, either. Bigwig cosmetics houses, like Clairol and L’Oréal Paris are pumping out the rainbow hair colours so that you can spray on and wash in your preferred SS vibe for one-day to semi-permanent wear. The only downside: you won’t smell like strawberries and they don’t come with the keys to your own strawberry house.
L’Oréal Paris Colorista Spray 1-day Colour in 11 shades, from $12.95 each, available at Walmart.
Clairol Color Crave Hair Makeup in 6 shades and Clairol Color Crave Semi-permanent Color in 11 shades, $14.99 each, available at drug stores.
