A “Love, Actually” Reunion is Happening

Today I woke up before dawn and I threw open my blinds and I yelled, “YOU THERE BOY, WHAT DAY IS THIS?”

And my cat did not answer me because I sounded out of my mind. But if he could have answered me, he’d have said, “It is one day closer to the Love, Actually sequel, miss.” Also, he would’ve said so in a British accent because this is my fantasy and I make the rules here.

But yes: Love, Actually 2 is on its way, even though it’s being made only as part of Red Nose Day and will only be 10 minutes. (March 24 in the UK — which will then air on May 25 on NBC here in North America.)

Richard Curtis announced an abridged version of the film is underway, and will star Hugh Grant, Martine McCutcheon, Keira Knightley, Andrew Lincoln, Colin Firth, Lucia Moniz, Liam Neeson, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Olivia Olson, Bill Nighy, Marcus Brigstocke and Rowan Atikinson. So far, Emma Thompson remains unattached.

“I would never have dreamt of writing a sequel to Love, Actually, but I thought it might be fun to do 10 minutes to see what everyone is up to now,” said Curtis. “Who has aged best? I guess that’s the big question . . . or is it so obviously Liam?”

“We’ve been delighted and grateful that so many of the cast are around and able to take part — and it’ll certainly be a nostalgic moment getting back together and recreating their characters 14 years later.”

So begin the countdown immediately and join me in wearing exclusively turtlenecks until the film’s premiere in a couple of weeks. We deserve this. We work hard. We need to laugh and feel again. I don’t even care how much I make fun of the original, I have never wanted anything else as much as I want this.
