Drinkables offer a sip of something different this holiday season
The holidays are just around the corner, and with them comes the opportunity to relax and enjoy a sense of calm. And let’s face it…you deserve it, especially after the year we’ve all had! Since it seems like just about everyone is talking about CBD and THC these days, why not celebrate this holiday with a cannabis-infused (oh-so-tasty) beverage?
Over the past year, cannabis beverages slowly started appearing on provincial cannabis websites and authorized cannabis retailers across Canada (depending on what province you live in, this could be a government-run entity or a private store) in the spring, and since then they have been a big hit with customers of legal age, especially during coronavirus lockdowns.
For those not familiar with cannabis beverages, the drinks can be infused with cannabidiol (CBD), tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or both. THC and CBD are cannabinoids, or chemical substances in cannabis. While THC is responsible for the way your brain and body respond to cannabis (including the high and intoxication), generally CBD is not thought to produce a high or intoxication. As with all cannabis, the effects can vary, so remember to start low and sip slow. As for the taste of the cannabis drink? That will simply depend on the flavour you buy.
(Editor’s note: Keep in mind that different drinks will offer different flavours, as well as a variety of CBD and THC potency levels.)
Ready to raise a glass and say cheers to the loved ones of legal age in your inner circle? We’ve put together a few of our favourite cannabis-infused beverages from our friends at Truss Beverage Co. – guaranteed to deliver a few unexpected flavours this holiday season.
House of Terpenes
Type of drink: Sparkling Tonics
Availability: Select Canadian provinces (click here to find it near you)
Do you consider yourself a bit of a food and beverage connoisseur? Then the House of Terpenes’ range of sparkling tonics, infused with botanically sourced flavours, might be for you. The two options are both infused 1:1 with 5 mg CBD and 5 mg THC per bottle, and easily integrate into any dinner occasion or dinner with friends. The Limonene & Sparkling Tonic (featuring bold hints of lemon, thyme and tangerine) is a perfect pre-dinner beverage, while the Myrcene & Sparkling Tonic (with spicy, earthy notes of tarragon, orange, clove and cinnamon) is a perfect post-dinner beverage to round out the night.
Little Victory
Type of drink: Bubbly beverages
Availability: Select Canadian provinces (click here to find it near you)
Looking for a beverage that’s simple and unfussy yet still fun and uplifting for an intimate get-together with a few friends? Little Victory’s naturally-flavoured sparkling beverages are available in four fantastic flavours: Dry Grapefruit and Dry Lemon offer a slightly tannic mouthfeel, while Sparkling Dark Cherry and Sparkling Blood Orange are flavour forward. Know what’s even better? They all have a zest to them that’s perfect for those who like serious bubbles. Break out your fanciest glasses to make the occasion feel a little more special…it’s the holidays, after all. Like House of Terpenes, each bottle of Little Victory is infused 1:1, this time with 2.5 mg CBD and 2.5 mg THC.
Mollo
Type of drink: Lightly-hopped beverages
Availability: Select Canadian provinces (click here to find it near you)
Ever have one of those nights where you just want to spend a little time with your partner, just sitting on the couch, watching the game? Mollo is crisp, tastes like it has a dash of molasses and is an ideal way to unwind, or to take a pause and just be in the moment. (Mollo, which is bottled in a brown stubby, is also a perfect gift for any canna-curious man in your life this holiday.) There are two versions available, one with a medium potency with 5 mg CBD and 5 mg THC and one with a low potency of 2.5 mg CBD and 2.5 mg THC.
Veryvell
Type of drink: Sparkling waters & Iced Tea
Availability: Select Canadian provinces (click here to find it near you)
When you are having “me” time, complement it with these lightly-carbonated cannabis-infused sparkling waters by Veryvell that come in two different flavours: Strawberry Hibiscus Sparkling Water and Sicilian Lemon Sparkling Water, each containing 15 mg CBD and 0.5 mg THC. Alternatively, if you’re curled up reading a good book, pair it with Lemon Black Iced Tea, infused 1:1 with a low potency of 2.5 mg CBD and 2.5 mg THC.
It’s important to remember that all cannabis-infused beverages – like edibles, vapes and topicals – have intoxicating effects and should only be consumed by adults of legal age. And as with all cannabis, never mix with alcohol. Everyone’s experience and relationship with cannabis will be a personal one. It’s recommended that you always start with low doses (2.5mg THC:CBD or CBD only) and drink your beverages slowly. Make a note of your journey, adjusting as you feel necessary.
