The episode begins with Lorelai and Rory at a town meeting, listening to Taylor’s lengthy speech about the spring festival. After the meeting, Lorelai gets tickets from Sookie for The Bangles concert in New York.
Lorelai suggests Rory take Lane, Paris, Madeline, and Louise, turning it into a Chilton bonding experience. After a bit of reluctance, the girls decide to go, with Lorelai chaperoning. This trip allows Rory to bond with Paris outside of the classroom and offers Paris an opportunity to be a regular teenager.
While at the concert, Madeline and Louise sneak off with two college guys, which causes panic for Lorelai, Rory, Paris, and Lane. When they finally locate Madeline and Louise, Lorelai scolds them. The incident cements Paris’s trust in Rory and Lorelai as she realizes they genuinely care for her well-being.
Meanwhile, back in Stars Hollow, Babette and Miss Patty babysit Sookie’s dog while she’s on a date with Jackson. The two treat the dog like a delicate baby, giving Luke a chance to tease them about their over-protectiveness.
At the Independence Inn, a magazine journalist comes to do an article on the Inn, but things get chaotic due to a mix-up with the dates. Michel, trying to impress the journalist, claims he is the owner, which leads to some humorous scenarios.
The episode concludes with Rory and Lorelai reflecting on their concert experience, with Rory realizing the value of seeing beyond the surface when it comes to understanding her classmates.
