Two of Our Favourite Fast-Fashion Brands are Making Some Sustainable Moves

Much as we love our favourite fast-fashion giants, they aren't necessarily known for being green. On-trend? Yes. Affordable? You betcha! Employing sustainable actions to ensure ethical business practices and the longevity of the plant? Unclear. The good news is, two of our favourites, H&M and Zara, are actually doing things to go green.

Here's what you need to know.

Zara

You may have noticed that when your latest online order from Zara arrived in came in a box that proudly bore a recycled label. It’s not a huge step, but the packaging is something that is so often overlooked in the beauty and fashion biz (even Green companies often don’t extend that ethos to packaging) so it’s nice to see a major player using recycled boxes. Also new to the brand is its Join Life collection (some would call it a direct answer to H&M’s Conscious Collection. The Join Life collection is made from upcycled materials and sustainable raw materials (think organic cotton and Tencel) and was designed to help reduce the impact that the huge corporation (Inditex is the parent company) has on the environment. While Zara’s efforts are much newer than H&M’s we are happy to see some of the biggest clothing companies in the world taking a step in the right environmentally-friendly direction.
