Richard Curtis' 2003 film Love Actually truly is a piece of cinematic genius. It's one of those rare Christmas movies that are so good and have so many other themes woven into them, that you can get away with watching it in the middle of July without feeling like you've done something wrong. And you know what else is great about Love Actually? It gives some solid ass advice. About love, about work, about relationships, about friendships, and of course”about the holidays. Do you (even if that means being alone)

If you’re overwhelmed around this time of year, don’t forget that you have options. Isolating yourself probably isn’t the best advice, but if circumstances are as such, you can pull a Jamie (Colin Firth). He needed time to heal after finding his wife cheating with his brother, so he went off to his French cottage to write and escape the real world. Or, pull a Colin (Kris Marshall and spend the holidays travelling alone! Colin was feeling lonely, so he chose to flee the country over Christmas to find a beautiful American woman who would theoretically be charmed by his British accent. Against all odds, he managed to find four. So clearly, taking a chance worked out for him.
