What To Pack For A Weekend Getaway

Weekends were made for the warm weather. Time spent at the cottage, camping and road tripping means you need to pack smart so you can get going and make the most of our beautiful summers. Get ready to head out with our weekend getaway essentials.

Rule number one of cottage/beach weekending: you’re going to be outside a lot, so don’t forget your sunscreen. We suggest packing it in multiples just in case you happen to misplace a bottle when stashing it for the beach or around the cottage dock. Try Shiseido’s Ultimate Sun Protection Spray Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ For Face/Body which is easy to apply, provides broad spectrum protection and will keep you protected even after swimming. Just remember to reapply often!

Even though chances are you won’t be wearing a ton of makeup, don’t forget to take it all off (yes, that includes sweat & anything else the elements throw at you) at the end of the day. Klorane Makeup Remover Biodegradable Wipes with Soothing Cornflower ($11 at Rexall) are gentle but leave your skin feeling clean and fresh, so you have no excuse when you don’t have a full washroom at your disposal.

If you’re only heading out for a night or two and don’t want to worry about washing, drying & styling your hair, dry shampoo is a must. Batiste Lotus Dry Shampoo ($9 at Walmart) smells great and leaves your hair feeling clean and refreshed without any heavy residue.

Don’t feel like bringing all of your full-sized products along? There’s no need to sacrifice your skin even if you’re at the cottage. This Shea Travel Kit from L’Occitane has all of your skin-loving favourites including hand, face and body cream and even a little bar of shea soap.

When it comes to packing, you want to make sure that you have a bag that’s easy to carry and holds everything you need; bonus points if it looks cute. The Getaway Bag from Poppy & Peonies ($125) is the perfect size for a weekend getaway and comes with a matching cosmetics bag to throw your toiletries in.

This nylon tote from Kate Spade is definitely pricier ($458), but if you’re a frequent weekend traveler, it’s worth the added investment. This super-roomy bag boasts chic black and white stripes, nylon construction and carrying versatility with top-handle and shoulder straps as well as plenty of inside pockets to store all of your essentials.

Whether you’re spending a couple of hours in a car or lounging around the campfire, weekend wear is all about stylish comfort. You’ll feel great taking a walk on the beach or a hike with a sporty crop top like this one from Hyba ($40), and the Myria dress ($54) from MEC is perfect for both travel and looking cute when you arrive at your destination.
