Wearing the right colour combinations of eye makeup can really make the difference between eyes that ‘pop’ and eyes that ‘fade’. Make your peepers the focal point with these tips:
If You Have Blue Eyes…
Think about contrast. Colours that are opposite of blue, like brown, copper and gold play up the icy coolness of blue eyes. After all, if it works for Zooey Deschanel, it’ll work for you, too! At night, if you want to go for a more intense look, use grey or pewter shadows on the lids and then apply a charcoal in the crease and line lash line with black liquid eye liner “ this is a sure way to make your baby blues sparkle. And the rule for blue eyeshadow on blue eyes? It can be done, but to make it less 80s and more more modern, opt for an indigo liner or a peacock shade on your lids instead of rocking the a loud hue like royal blue from lash line to brow bone.
If You Have Brown Eyes…
Again, use contrasting shades to really make eyes standout. Anything in the purple family (from eggplant to lilac), looks amazing on brown eyes, so try a purple smoky eye for special occasions. Or if you want to stay neutral, begin with dark brown eyeliner on the upper and lower lash lines and then use a taupe shadow all over the lid and an espresso shadow in the crease. When in doubt, look to brown-eyed girl Sandra Bullock “ she easily transitions from girl next door one minute and red carpet stunner the next.
If You Have Green Eyes…
Bold and attention-grabbing, it doesn’t take much to make green eyes stand out. But if you’re hoping to add a little extra pop to your already-rich colour, embrace the warmth of golds, coppers and browns which will contrast your eyes while adding a rich and inviting quality. However, to the warm there’s always cold, and for a look that’s just as bold as your natural eye colour, play with purples, plums or metallics, which instantly exude femininity.
If You Have Hazel Eyes…
The chameleon of eye colours, it can be tricky to go about choosing the colour-popping makeup du jour, but the upside is that you can pretty much wear any colour you like. If your colour shifts depending on outfit choice, play up the tone by using shadows applicable to the time: if your eyes look green, use coppers and golds, and if they’re on the darker side, contrast with beiges and tans. Sure, you may have to invest in more shades, but delight in the fact that most of us are jealous of your excuse to hoard more eye makeup.
