The holiday season is here! You’ve picked up gifts for friends and family, but one special person is left on your list… If you’re having trouble finding the perfect gift for your boyfriend, here are some ideas that will make him feel lucky that he has such a thoughtful girl like you!
New romance
If you just started dating, you don’t want to put too much into a gift for your first Christmas. You don’t want to scare him off by showing you’re too invested, or make him feel bad if all he got you was a bottle of wine. Show him you care, but also show that you’re in tune with his interests by buying him a cool coffee table book or novel from his favourite author. A nice picture book shows that you value his interests and is personal, without being too blatant. If he likes cars, get him a book on his favourite make, or find a travel book of places he wants to visit. If he’s a book lover, a special edition of his favourite book or a new bestseller is thoughtful as well.
Getting comfortable
If you’ve known your guy for over six months and are mutually exclusive, a thoughtful gift would be a nice wool scarf. It will allow you to spruce up his personal style (without interjecting too much!) and he will think of you anytime he wraps it around to keep warm. Another idea is a nice pair of leather gloves (too many men don’t wear gloves that fit properly), or a vintage shaving kit, if he’s the old-fashioned type.
Dating for a year
If you and your boyfriend have already celebrated a birthday or major holiday, it’s safe to put a little more investment in a present to show that you care. A nice cologne (classics like Armani or Acqua di Parma) is a safe bet. A nice watch is also a thoughtful gift and will keep him on time for work and date nights.
Long-term relationship
By now, you should know your boyfriend’s tastes and needs, so this is an opportunity to surprise him. Pick up a classic gift or revitalize old wardrobe staples like a new cashmere sweater or dress shirt. Couple the classic gift with something more creative to show your personality and how well you know him. If he’s into his bicycle, a leather wine bottle holder is a cute addition to his set of wheels. If he loves the outdoors, get him a pair of snowshoes or cross-country skis (better yet, pick up a set for you as well), so you can take on new adventures together. You could also get him a quirky gift referring to an inside joke or a memory you shared. If travel is in your budget, book a night at a romantic inn to treat him, or plan a staycation that will allow you two to spend some time together. If you’re still stuck on an idea, a photo book is an excellent way to convert your instagram pictures into something you can actually hold in your hands.
