My doctor once told me the single most important part of a balanced diet is “eating the rainbow”. No, not skittles, but a colorful diet of fresh and diverse veggies and fruit!
Healthy eating is all about seeing out a wide variety of veggies every single day. Think about bright colorful fruits. Living off plant based foods can be a plentiful diet. Here are some colorful fruits and veggies that are not only beautiful to look at (and super photogenic- instagram photos, much?) but delicious.
Think about beets, cherries, cranberries, pomegranates, red apples, red bell peppers, strawberries, tomatoes, butternut squash, oranges, sweet potatoes, lemon, yellow squash, grapefruit, avocados, broccoli, spinach, lettuce, kale, blueberries, eggplants, grapes, cauliflower, mushrooms, blackberries, and more! These bright and delicious foods are red, blue, purple, yellow and all natural!
Why is it important to eat a rainbow diet?
All the fruits and vegetables that are a diverse spectrum of colors contain different phytonutrients that protect us against disease and promote health! Each veggie and fruit that is a different color group is packed with its own vitamins and minerals that lead to a balanced and healthy diet.
What does each color mean for our body?
Red: Is great for your heart and great for our joints!
Orange: Vitamin C keeps us healthy and boosts our immune system.
Yellow: Yellow foods are great for our skin and keeps our digestive system healthy!
Green: Strengthens our immune systems.
Purple/Blue: Blue is for brain food!
Now go and fill up your plate with colorful fruits and vegetables. Look for variety and mix it up. Vibrant, healthy and delicious!
