Miley Cyrus has purchased the iconic Bob Mackie dress that she wore to perform at the 2024 Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025. Cyrus made a splash when she stepped onstage at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony in a silver sequin minidress with cutouts to perform her track “Flowers” shortly after she had won her first Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance. Cyrus memorably capped her performance wearing the dress by changing out one of the song’s lyrics for “I just won my first Grammy!”
The beaded, fringed dress with bare midriff was selected by Cyrus’s stylist, Bradley Kenneth, and was one of five looks that Cyrus wore throughout the evening. (She also grabbed headlines that night wearing a gold Maison Margiela gown made of 14,000 safety pins on the red carpet)
While the beaded performance dress was initially returned to Bob Mockie’s archive, it was included in a sale at Julien’s Auctions set to take place earlier this week. In a statement Cyrus confirmed that she had snapped up the special piece before it hit the auction block.
“This dress represents more than a performance – it’s a celebration of the relationship between music, artistry and glamour,” Cyrus said. “This performance was a pivotal moment in my life, and to have Bob Mackie’s support in securing it means the world to me.”
The beaded dress was originally made for the legendary costume designer’s 2002 collection and carried an estimate of $6,000 to $8,000 in the catalogue for the Hollywood Legends: Unmistakably Mackie auction.
Cyrus did not announce how much she paid for the dress, though proceeds will be donated to MusiCares, a nonprofit organization that provides health, educational and financial programs and assistance to people working in the music industry.
As for the designer’s reaction to the news that Cyrus is the new owner of the shimmering dress?
“Miley’s performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards marked an unforgettable moment in her career,” Mackie said. “As the designer of this dress, I couldn’t imagine it on anyone else. That girl was born to perform!”
