This article contains spoilers on who was eliminated from season three of Project Runway Canada, episode six.
By Michele Yeo
This week on Project Runway Canada we saw the remaining designers tasked with creating a runway ready look based on a pair of shoes. The custom couture creation had to both incorporate and be inspired by the shoes. While the judges thought Foster’s design was a shoo-in, selecting him as this week’s winner, they put Leeland, Rome, and Cat in the bottom three with Rome and Cat both going home in a surprising double elimination.
We caught up with both designers to chat about the challenge and the end of their journeys on Project Runway Canada.

Rome, you seemed to know that you’d be in the bottom, you even had your hand out ready to welcome back your model – why was that?
Rome: At that stage, I accepted that the judges would either connect with the look or not. My work hadn’t always been fully understood throughout the season, and I approached this design knowing it might be received the same way.
How surprised were you at the double elimination?
Rome: A double elimination wasn’t something I anticipated, mainly because I didn’t think I would be going home.
Cat: I was shocked. I tried to convince myself that even if I landed in the bottom, I wasn’t going home, but I definitely wasn’t expecting a double elimination.
What are your thoughts on your elimination, specifically?
Rome: I felt my elimination was unfair. There was significant context in that episode that viewers didn’t see, and although I can’t speak on it yet, I do believe grace wasn’t extended where it should have been.
Cat: I was surprised because while I was creating the look, I felt confident. The model loved it, and I really loved how the color and movement came together on her. Being eliminated was a shock, and sometimes you’re just too close to something to see it clearly.

Rome, you were really struggling with whether to include the vest in the runway look – take us through the decision making there.
Rome: I knew the judges would either connect with the vest or they wouldn’t. I felt that expanding on the pants could have made the vest unnecessary, but I was persuaded not to take that route. There was a lot happening creatively at that point, and much of that process didn’t make it to air.
Cat, the judges seemed to think the ruffles overwhelmed your look and pulled from the shoes – what were your thoughts on that feedback?
Cat: I loved the ruffles and had spent so much time creating them that cutting them from the look was never even an option. I also thought the look was supposed to be inspired by the shoes, and that it wasn’t a big deal if they weren’t fully visible, but that turned out to be a big mistake.
How difficult was this challenge compared to all the others?
Cat: Actually, it wasn’t. I really enjoyed creating this look. It was stressful, as always, with the time constraints, but overall, I enjoyed the process even if the judges didn’t end up liking it.
Rome: This challenge wasn’t difficult for me because I was truly in my element. What was frustrating was being thrown a curveball that ultimately wasn’t shown. I also felt it was unfair—similar situations have been praised when they happened to other designers, but in my case, that context wasn’t shared, and the audience never got to see it.

Describe your experience on Project Runway Canada.
Cat: It was a rollercoaster of emotions. From happiness to sadness, stress to anger, excitement to discouragement, I felt it all on this show. If I had the chance, I would do it all over again! But maybe a little differently.
Rome: My experience on Project Runway Canada was bittersweet, and based on my final episode, it ultimately left a sour taste in my mouth.
