All the Way Mae, Dottie Hinson, Betty Spaghetti and Doris Murphy were the real deal and while the film was fictionalized, the story was taken from the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). Together these strong females showed their role in sport and play, even making a believer out of their grumpy of a coach, Jimmy Dugan, played by Tom Hanks. Fun fact: before the actresses began filming they trained eight hours a day, six days a week for over seven months, honing their baseball skills. That’s dedication.
