Whether it's because the '90s are making a comeback or now, more than ever, consumer makeup toes the line every so closely to pro makeup brands, blue makeup for every part of your face is now a thing. Since shades of blue makeup can sometimes give us beauty butterflies, we talked to MAC Cosmetics senior artist Jane McKay (who keys looks for runway shows all over the globe) on how to navigate this daring blue beauty trend with style and sass for the day-to-day.
Treat it as a neutral
The number one thing we took away from our conversation with McKay on the blue beauty trend: Don’t be afraid! Personally, I view blue as a neutral, says McKay, adding, We see it in nature everywhere from the sea to the sky and since most of the world has brown eyes, blue can be a beautiful brightening shade to contrast brown. Likewise those with blue eyes can achieve a very monochromatic effect when wearing blue makeup on the eyes as McKay (a blue eyed beauty herself) does. The key to making blue makeup work is to wear one to two focus features rather than a full face of makeup.
