Look Like A Goddess With These Easy Summer Hairstyles

Lately I’ve been obsessed with the idea of a capsule wardrobe. But not just when it comes to my closet, but in all aspects of my life. I’ve always been a bit of a hoarder and I noticed all my collecting was making my life difficult. I would wake up in the morning, do a 12-step cleansing routine (okay, maybe not 12 steps, but it felt like it!) and then apply three layers of makeup, add five or six products into my hair and after about 45 minutes, I’d still have to dig through piles and piles of clothes to find what I was going to wear.

I was always late. And it was because I had amassed so much stuff. Last fall, I had finally had enough. It was time to downsize my life. I narrowed down my wardrobe to the staple pieces I would always wear, and threw out all those extra makeup palettes I hardly touched and beauty products I didn’t need.  I did the same for my hair care routine. All I really needed was a great shampoo and conditioner and two multi-use styling products. Everything else had to go.

What I’ve narrowed it down to:

Now that I had less stuff, the only thing keeping me from getting anywhere on time was my hair. Yes, I had less products, but I had to come up with a few hairstyles that were both quick and easy to achieve, but also looked great using the products in my hair capsule wardrobe. Here are my three go-to styles and how I achieve them.

Frizz Free Waves

You can still have sleek hair without it needing to be pin straight. After washing my hair with Brilliant Brunette® Multi-Tone Revealing Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner and blow drying it (tip: always end your blow dry on a cold setting to get rid of extra flyaways and frizz and to add shine) I use a one-and-a-half-inch barrel curling iron to create big voluminous waves. I chose this shampoo because after years of trying all different hair colours, I’ve finally settled on the fact that I like the colour I was born with. And this shampoo takes my brunette locks and brings out my natural highlights, while keeping my hair healthy and hydrated. And waves are the best way to show off that multi-dimensional colour. When I am done sectioning out my hair and using curling iron, I take a small amount of Frizz Ease® Secret Weapon® Touch-Up Cré¨me and run my fingers throughout my hair from the middle to the ends to break up any curls and create sleek waves. If your hair is the type that doesn’t hold curls or waves well, finish up with a spray of Frizz Ease® Moisture Barrier Flexible Hold Hairspray.

Effortless Ponytail

This is my go-to hot-summer-day hairstyle, when I still have a little bit of that wave left from yesterday’s ˜do. Brilliant Brunette® Multi-Tone Revealing Moisturizing Shampoo gives me fabulous hair for two to three days, so this is a great look for second-day hair. I just tip my head upside down, grab an elastic, and try and get a ponytail right at the crown of my head. To achieve that effortless look, make sure you are not slicking back your hair into the pony with a brush. Just use your fingers to gather the hair. Once you have secured the elastic use your fingers to add texture to the ponytail, essentially messing it up to create volume. Set the look with Frizz Ease® Moisture Barrier Flexible Hold Hairspray, giving you touchably-soft hair that stays in place. None of that crunchy and hard nonsense.

Loose Braid

I always find John Frieda® Frizz Ease® products make my hair extra silky, but still voluminous. A great way to show off a head of healthy hair is a braid! It is also a sneaky way to make it look like you spent a lot of time on your hair when it took you just a few minutes. When it comes to braiding my hair, I like to use an up-side down French braid. I find it shows off the colour tones in your hair much better, which are brought out by using John Frieda® Brilliant Brunette® Multi-Tone Revealing Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner. I part my hair to the side and from the part I begin to pull pieces into the braid, loosely gathering each piece so that it isn’t too tight (if you do that you’ll end up with boxer braids and not this effortless boho-chic look). For better control you can apply a little Frizz Ease® Secret Weapon® Touch-Up Cré¨me to your fingertips. Allow pieces to fall loose once you reach the nape of your neck. Secure with an elastic at the bottom of the braid. To transform the look to night, you can use the bottom of the braid and twist it into a bun at the back of your head, securing it with pins. Spray a little Frizz Ease® Moisture Barrier Flexible Hold Hairspray, and you are done!
